Permaculture Design in action

A Multigenerational Design Process for a Multigenerational Land

Designing with the Patterns of Life

Harmonizing with natural forces of life, Sun, Water, Wind, Stone, Soil, Plant, Animal to regenerate fertility and abundance.

Principles

The Permaculture Design Process is a holistic design concept for living in harmony and abundance within our Mother Earth. We align our vision for our spaces and lives through designing with the natural patterns of sun, wind, water, seasons, plant and animal cycles. Principles of Earth-Care, People-Care and Return of Surplus guide Permaculture Design Processes.

This is a Design and Implementation Process, where the Design continues to evolve as the Implementation and Observation Process opens the door to new understandings and possibilities for this particular Land. This process nourishes the growth of intergenerational knowledge and wisdom.

The evolving gardens, food forests, pastures, living and working spaces and wild spaces are the genius teachers we learn from as designers.

The Roots, Trunk and Branches of Permaculture:

Permaculture uses all these techniques, fields and practices within its design process when appropriate and desired:

  • Holistic Grazing
  • Regenerative Gardening/ Farming
  • Agro Forestry
  • Organic
  • Biodynamic
  • Ecology
  • Architecture
  • Agriculture
  • Other

However, fundamentally Permaculture is informed by Mother Earth herself, and heavily inspired by and influenced by the design approaches and profound understanding held by Ancient and Modern Traditional (Indigenous) Cultures throughout our planet.

INTERGENERATIONAL WISDOM:

Traditional Indigenous societies worldwide rely on the transmission of knowledge and wisdom from generation to generation through a variety of expressions, from Myth, Story, and Dance to Architecture, Sculpture and Glyphs. Our Ancestors had a profound knowledge of their natural environments within their specific locality. There are layers of knowledge specific to a bioregion, and indefinite niches within those reasons with further layers of specific knowledge. Agricultural and horticultural practices that work in one location, do not necessarily work in other locations. One of the most obvious lessons of modern times is the misapplication of Northern European farming practices to Tropical and Arid areas of the Earth. There is a pressing need for a reestablishment of bioregion specific knowledge bases. The depth of knowledge requires intergenerational transmission and requires that each generation build upon the wisdom of the previous generations. One of the principles of our endeavors here is to accumulate, preserve and share this generational knowledge for our specific area. This website is a contribution to that end.
